Mechanism of medicine action:
Oxymetholone is a steroid that has both anabolic and androgenic characteristics. In anemias caused by bone marrow failure, oxymetholone enhances the production and excretion of erythropoietin through the urine, and it promotes erythropoiesis in anemias caused by a lack of red blood cells.
Side effects:
Increased sexual desire as well as signs of masculinization such voice changes, acne, and more hair growth. It may harm the liver as well.
Dosage:
1-2 mg/kg/day orally is the standard effective dosage; however, oxymetholone therapy should be personalized, and a larger dosage (up to 5 mg/kg/day) may be required. A minimum of 3–6 months of therapy is recommended due to the possibility of a delayed response
